The fitting contains embedded resistance heating coils. When connected to a compatible electrofusion control unit, the coils generate heat and fuse the fitting socket and pipe surface together. After cooling, the joint forms a strong, leak-tight and corrosion-resistant connection.Manufactured from high-quality PE80 or PE100 raw material, our electrofusion reducing couplings are available in a wide range of diameter combinations. Custom sizes, colours, labels and packaging are available on request.

    1-2
  • An electrofusion reducing coupling is a PE fitting with two socket ends of different diameters. It is used when a pipeline needs to transition from a larger HDPE pipe to a smaller HDPE pipe, or vice versa.

During installation, the outer surface of each pipe is scraped, cleaned and inserted into the fitting to the required insertion depth. The electrofusion machine then supplies the specified fusion energy through the fitting terminals. The embedded heating coils melt the contacting PE surfaces and create a homogeneous joint after the required cooling period.

Compared with mechanical joints, electrofusion connections do not require threaded components or elastomeric seals in the fusion zone. This makes the product particularly suitable for applications requiring long-term reliability, corrosion resistance and secure underground pipe connections.

Installation Guidelines

  • For a reliable electrofusion joint, installation should be performed by trained personnel using compatible electrofusion equipment.

    1. 1. Cut the pipe square and remove burrs.
    2. 2. Mark the required insertion depth on both pipe ends.
    3. 3. Scrape the oxidation layer from the fusion area using a suitable rotary or peeling scraper.
    4. 4. Clean the scraped area with approved cleaning materials and allow it to dry.
    5. 5. Insert both pipes fully into the reducing coupling.
    6. 6. Use alignment clamps to prevent movement during fusion and cooling.
    7. 7. Connect the electrofusion terminals to the control unit.
    8. 8. Scan the barcode or enter the specified fusion parameters according to the fitting label.
    9. 9. Keep the assembly fixed throughout the fusion and cooling process.
    10. 10. Do not pressure-test or move the joint until the required cooling time has elapsed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an electrofusion reducing coupling used for?

It is used to connect two HDPE pipes with different outside diameters in a straight pipeline.

Can it be used for gas pipelines?

Yes, gas-use fittings can be supplied subject to the required material grade, SDR, pressure rating and applicable gas-pipeline standards.

Is PE100 better than PE80?

PE100 generally offers a higher minimum required strength classification than PE80. The correct material should be selected according to the project specification, pressure class and local standard.

Does the fitting include fusion parameters?

Barcode, label and traceability information can be supplied according to product configuration and customer requirements.

Can you provide customized sizes?

Yes. Please provide the pipe outside diameter, SDR, application, working pressure, required standard and quantity.
